Vivek relishes encountering new technologies, and this, combined with his ability to analyse and communicate clearly, mean that he has the ideal qualities to flourish as a patent attorney. Since joining HLK, he has enjoyed the challenge of working on cases on a variety of engineering technologies and is enthusiastic about expanding his knowledge.
Vivek joined the patent profession in 2015, when he joined the UKIPO as a Patent Examiner. Here he primarily worked on patent applications in the automotive field. He brought this valuable IP experience to HLK, joining the Engineering Team as a trainee patent attorney in 2018.
Vivek completed a MEng in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, graduating in 2015. He gained experience on a wide range of engineering technologies, with a highlight being the design and manufacture of a battery packaging system for an electric vehicle, which won the Design prize at Formula Student in 2013. During his Master’s project, he gained particular experience in materials testing of food products for Nestlé. Vivek also has valuable industrial experience in engineering design, having worked for Dualit, a kitchen appliance manufacturer, whilst undertaking a year in industry program during his degree.
His experience at the UKIPO gives him a strong grounding in patent processing and enables him to have a unique perspective when drafting and prosecuting patent applications. He has extensive experience in searching and analysing prior art in a variety of technical fields and he has particular expertise in the field of automotive control.
At HLK, he has enjoyed drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications covering an extensive range of technology in the engineering field, including gas turbine engines, compressors, HVAC equipment and medical devices.
In his spare time, Vivek is a keen home cook. He enjoys discovering new music and attending live shows, and likes playing badminton.
