About Rachel

Rachel joined the Chemistry and Life Sciences team at HLK in September 2024.

Prior to joining HLK, Rachel completed a DPhil in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, where she specialised in the synthesis and applications of solid-state materials. Her doctoral research focused on creating novel magnetoelectric materials through advanced low-temperature topochemical synthesis, combining experimental and computational approaches to investigate complex material properties. As part of her DPhil, Rachel spent four months at Cornell University, where she applied symmetry principles and Density Functional Theory calculations to study the relationship between structural distortions and ferroelectricity in layered perovskites.

Rachel holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh, where she conducted research on the synthesis of single-molecule magnets and completed a year-long research placement at the University of Chicago. Her academic background spans various branches of chemistry, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research at the intersection of inorganic chemistry, materials science, and technology.

Since joining HLK, Rachel has trained at the HLK Academy, building expertise in core patent concepts, and has gained hands-on experience prosecuting European patent applications across a range of chemistry and functional materials.
