About Oliver

Oliver is particularly drawn to application-driven areas of science, where recent theoretical and experimental advances give rise to new inventions.

While studying for a master’s degree in Physics at the University of Leeds, he was led to study classes in developing cross-disciplinary fields like nanotechnology, biomedical physics, and quantum computing. In his master’s research project, Oliver worked to develop a new atomic force microscopy technique for measuring the rheological properties of polymer gels. Through organising study groups with course mates and working as a private tutor, he also gained an appreciation for the important role that communication plays in science.

After graduating, Oliver aspired to forge a career that combined science and communication. Having worked as a tutor, textbook contributor, and science writer; Oliver joined the IP profession in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since.

As a trainee patent attorney, Oliver enjoys working with a wide range of people and technologies while also putting his problem-solving skills and precise nature to good use. Since joining the Electronics and Communications team at HLK, Oliver has worked on drafting and prosecuting UK and European patent applications relating to AI, medical devices, and telecommunications.
