Andrew is a member of the electronics and communications team at HLK and is the first member of the team to be based in HLK’s Scottish office. Andrew joined HLK in early 2019 from another large patent attorney firm in Scotland. Andrew has advised a wide variety of clients including start-ups, SMEs, universities and multinational companies on patent matters in the fields of electronics and engineering. Andrew has experience in a range of technologies, including electronics, telecommunications, machine learning, software, optics, photolithography, medical devices, oil & gas technology and mechanical engineering. Andrew particularly enjoys working with his clients to help them achieve their commercial goals.
Andrew joined the patent profession in 2012 after completing a PhD in the field of ultrashort laser pulse shaping and biophotonics. Andrew considers it a privilege to have been able to learn about a range of technologies in his career. Working as a patent attorney has given Andrew a deeper insight into the challenges faced by a range of different industries and helped him gain a significant appreciation for how inventors have contributed to society in ways that can often be taken for granted.
